basiacat asked: Alright, YOUR turn for Wash/Maine (this is my OTP of all OTPs and I didn't want to vomit slash onto everyone's dash sob).
-They started as just he best of bros. They fought well together, even though, especially Wash was somewhat of a protocol banging pansy and Maine was an all out “let’s fuck this up” fighter.
-Wash admired Maine for that kind of attitude, even though Maine’s schemes sometimes got them in trouble, they helped him let loose every once in a while.
-Maine drug Wash to a “drunkmas” party at the beginning of Project: Freelancer. (You see, the Director would lock himself in his office every Christmas with a bottle of scotch and yell at the walls about how Allison had left him, so the Freelancers took advantage of that and got drunk themselves). Neither of them are quite sure how it happened, but they ended up making out in the corner. Nothing more happened, but the next morning Wash was quite embarrassed he had gotten “that drunk” (his own words).
-He continued to use alcohol to justify his actions to himself and as an excuse for the other Freelancers until Maine cornered him, this time completely sober, and kissed him. This made Wash shut up about all of his excuses, and they started sleeping together soon after.
-They didn’t talk about their relationship much, it was just there. Wash went out with South briefly during this period. Maine didn’t say anything about it, but when Wash and South broke up, he just picked up where they left off in their relationship.
-Shit started falling apart when they were implanted with their respective AIs and Project: Freelancer started to fall. Maine did the best he could to support Wash with Epsi, but Wash wouldn’t tell him anything about the memories.
-When Epsi committed suicide and he was classified Article 12, Was was removed from the program and put in extensive therapy. To keep an eye on him, the Director moved him to a wing of the infirmary where he was monitored 24/7. After all, he was studying the effects of AI on the Freelancers, and he was actually quite pleased that he had something new to study. (he’s kind of a sick fucker).
-Maine started to go crazy around then as well, as Sigma started feeding him information about the Alpha. Without Wash as a grounding presence, he went wild. He was even more aggressive than normal, purposefully hurting- even maiming other Freelancers to get their AI. He stole several before he broke out of the program.
-Wash slowly began to heal from Epsi’s fuckery, but by that time Freelancer was pretty scattered. Sigma had started an uprising among the AI for the Alpha, and many of the Freelancers (like York and Wyoming) had gone on the lam. Several of the Freelancers (Tex) remained in contact with Freelancer, as long as they sent her missions.
-And then Wash was put on the Meta’s case and the rest is history.
Little tidbits:
-Maine is a total cover hog. More than that, he would habitually fall off the bed and drag the covers with him.
-They would go into the training rooms, late at night, to practice sparring, but would accidentally end up making out.
-Maine gave Wash his nickname and refused to put up with any of his protocol banging.
